9 Simple Practice Lessons to Let Go of Your Ego Today

Ego Kills Dreams

Your ego is an obstacle to your dreams. Your ego makes you afraid to reach for greatness. Your ego makes you scared to stretch your boundaries. Your ego keeps you small.

Your ego prevents you from seeing yourself clearly. And it causes you to doubt your abilities.

Your ego stops you from pursuing your goals. It limits your potential. And it kills your dreams.

The ego is the enemy of great achievement.

So stop letting your ego hold you back. Eliminate your ego. Get rid of it.

You can do it.

I’m going to tell you a secret.

The truth is that most of us spend too much time thinking about ourselves. We worry about our weaknesses. We obsess over our flaws. We focus on what we can’t do rather than what we can.

We act like we’re incapable of achieving certain things. Like we’ll never amount to anything. Like we’re destined to fail.

But you know what?

Most of us aren’t doomed to fail. Most of us aren't destined to fail.

There’s no reason to doubt that you can accomplish whatever you put your mind to.

All you have to do is stop worrying about what you can’t do and start focusing on what you can do.

Stop looking outwards and start looking inwards. Start believing that you can change. Believe that you can improve. Believe that you can grow.

Believe that you can achieve anything you set your mind to.

Then, watch your dreams come alive.

Pride stops you from listening and leads you to failure

The ego is the enemy. We've all heard this phrase at some point in our lives. But when we're talking about ego, we're not just referring to prideful self-centeredness. Ego is any sense of superiority over others.

When we feel superior to others, we tend to ignore advice because we believe we already know everything there is to know. This leads us down a path of failure.

If you find yourself ignoring advice, ask yourself whether you're feeling superior to others. If you are, then you need to work on overcoming your ego.

There are many ways to overcome ego. One of them is to seek out feedback from others. Ask friends, family members, colleagues, and mentors for honest feedback. They may be able to help you identify areas where you need improvement.

Another way to overcome ego is to listen to advice. Don't dismiss advice simply because you disagree with it. Instead, consider the source. Is the person giving you advice well-respected within your industry? Does he/she have experience in your field? Do you trust his/her opinion?

If you answer yes to these questions, then take the advice seriously. After all, the person who gave you the advice knows more than you do. So instead of dismissing the advice, try to understand it. Then use it to improve your own skills.

A story of a young boy

A young boy walked out of the house angry. He thought he had a brilliant idea. He was upset that his dad did not support his business idea.

He was walking along the beach when he saw a large rock sitting alone on the sand. Curious, he picked up the rock and brought it home. As he examined it under his microscope, he noticed that it was hollow inside.

His curiosity got the better of him and he decided to open it up. Inside, he discovered a tiny mouse!

He was determined to keep it alive. So he kept it at home. A few days later, he let the mouse off into the woods.

He continued to watch the mouse every day until it disappeared completely. Then one day, he couldn't find the mouse anywhere.

A few days passed. Suddenly, one day, he heard some sounds inside the mouse cage. Sure enough, there was the mouse, just as he remembered seeing it last. Still puzzled, he reached into the cage and carefully lifted the mouse out. Holding it gently between his fingers, he studied its fur closely.

There was no doubt about it. It was the exact same mouse!

As he stared at the mouse in disbelief, he suddenly understood what had happened. The mouse had come back to live with him. It had followed him faithfully each day and waited patiently for him to return.

Since then, the boy has become a very different person.

Instead of getting angry or upset, he chooses to forgive those who have wronged him. He understands that forgiveness means letting go of resentment and bitterness. It means accepting that other people are imperfect and that they may do things that hurt us.

Instead of holding a grudge against his parents, he forgives them. He knows that they love him and that they're doing the best they can. He also knows that they will continue to make mistakes.

This understanding has changed his entire outlook on life. He no longer sees himself as weak or inferior. He knows that he's capable of great things and that he deserves respect.

He let go of his resentment and ego.
